It is my pleasure to join Healthy Is The New Skinny as your regular travel blogger. It’s been awhile since I’ve done a regular writing gig, but I find myself in far off lands often writing blogs in my head – things like, tips for easier travel, the benefits of talking to strangers or describing some really cool part of a city that I’ve happened upon. Yes, I talk to myself all the time – in my head mostly though. And odd as it may sound, I actually think it’s one of the healthiest things a person can do – know your own voice in the midst of all of the noise going on around you. I can’t say that before I began traveling, I could always distinguish between my voice from peers, family or the media. But being an avid solo traveler, often I’m the only one to talk to. The flip side is that, I’m also the only one to listen. Through this realization, I’ve also found that travel can be one of the most transformative and affirming things a person can experience. Not only do you get to see new and unfamiliar places, but in those new and unfamiliar places, the world becomes a mirror and the reflection of who you are become clearer than any other mirror you’ve stood in front of before. It was being plucked from from my social circle, job, and family for a time, that I learned what really gets me going. That is why I am such a big advocate of travel. It is the best gift that you can give yourself – and to the ones you love. Because when you’ve found the source of your happiness, you can’t help but to infect the environment around you with your happy. So, who am I beside a stranger standing proudly on my soapbox of wanderlust? My name is Lauren, but I go by Elle. I am a singer and a nomad. I’ve made my living for the past five years as a professional background singer for Katy Perry.
Since 13, I knew that singing was my passion. Above anything else that I’ve done, it still is the single thing that I do, where I feel the most alive. It is so natural and fulfilling. As a reformed introvert, singing was my way of connecting to people without having to have small talk. I can still be a bit awkward when it comes to “cool” casual banter. To be honest, I’m only really only good at it when I’ve got enough sleep – which can be hard to come by on the road. But I endure my awkwardness. It’s who I am. Luckily for me, through my passion for music, I discovered a second passion and that passion is travel. Since 2010, I’ve traveled to more than 60 countries. Many of them on tour, but also quite a few on my own. Travel has helped me find ways to connect with people because no matter where I travel on the globe, I see that all people have the same goals in life. And although I may not be all that awesome at a cocktail party, I have a love for people and finding ways to serve them in some way is one of the things that makes me happy. See, my third passion and the common link between music and travel is, hospitality. With music, it’s the opportunity to facilitate the environment for people to let go, sing along and dance free of judgement in a crowds of 100s or 1000s of others who all agree to do the same thing. With travel, it is with this simple mission, “to empower you to take the trip you’ve always dreamed of.”
This mission is formally practiced through my company, The Holiday Girl, which I founded to serve clients who have decided to take their dream trips but need a little bit of expert help putting the pieces together. So thank you for having me as your travel blogger on Healthy Is the New Skinny. I promise this will be an exciting journey and my inbox will always be open to serve you – and empower you to go the distance for your own dreams.
